A small, two-seat plane crashed on Thanksgiving Day near an airfield near Alvarado, killing two

November 23, 2006

ALVARADO -- A small, two-seat plane crashed on Thanksgiving Day near an airfield near Alvarado, killing an Addison, Texas, man and a man from Grandview, Texas, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety dispatcher in Waco, who declined to identify himself. Authorities have not released the identifies of the two men involved in the crash.

The plane, which was a single-engine Pulsar, a home-built aircraft with wings on the bottom of the fuselage, left an airstrip about 3:30 p.m. Thursday near Alvarado. Witnesses said two men were in the plane when it took off.

The pilot was in his early 70s; the age of the passenger was not available, Sgt. Tom Hargrave, spokesman for the Johnson County Sheriff's Department, said in a statement.

Sheriff's officials were notified of the crash by the Air Force Rescue Coordinator after an intermittent GPS signal indicated a downed aircraft at about 6:22 p.m. The signals were transmitted in an area between Rio Vista and Grandview. Authorities found the downed plane about 1 1/2 miles from the airstrip it had left.
